Gateway to Chinese Language is a comprehensive package of course material for first-year Mandarin Chinese. It is in two volumes, each comprising a textbook and a workbook.Volumes I and II have ten and twelve lessons respectively. Each lesson contains dialogues, annotated vocabulary with illustrated sentences, sentence patterns, sentence building exercises, questions and responses, cultural notes in English, and a reading section. For the lesson texts, both pinyin and Chinese characters are provided.
