This book represents a practical guideline for analysis of tunnel excavation and support by utilizing 2-D plane strain numerical analysis programs. Several approaches are presented about numerical analysis of the tunnel in plane strain. Author discussed advantages and disadvantages of different approaches and suggested his way of dealing the problem, especially relaxation of tunnel boundary with detailed explanation. Parameter estimation for rock masses are also briefly explained by collecting literature related to the issue. Since this book does not cover the basics of numerical modelling or geotechnical engineering, a background of geotechnics and tunnelling analysis is required in order to get efficiency from the book.
