VDM Hertzberg, S: SexEd.edu?

Nearly 15 years ago, the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) wrote that the Internet would be the next great technological medium and that its inception would usher forth a new era of comprehensive sexuality education. Now, nearly a decade into the 21st century, it is clear that the Internet increasingly pervades nearly every aspect of everyday life, including education. However, despite existing research that examines both the Internet as an educational resource and mass media as a sex educator, the world still knows little about the promise of the Internet as a resource to aid educators who yearn to provide students (and parents) with medically accurate, age-appropriate comprehensive "healthy" sex education. "SexEd.edu?" uses standards developed by SIECUS in conjunction with information provided by K-8 educators to evaluate the Internet as a healthy sex educator. Through an investigation of several popular sexuality education websites, this book hopes to demonstrate the potential of the Internet to aid in the development and execution of classroom- based healthy sex education.
