IT-security sounds like a subject purely for a company''s IT-department, for the IT-specialists alone. But IT-security definitely is more than just a technical toy , its influence on a company s performance is real. It can be proven that companies are more likely to loose money if IT-security is neglected. Companies worldwide are facing financial loss day by day due to security-gaps in their IT-infrastructure as demonstrated in several studies all over the world. This thesis concentrates on proving that failures in IT-security indeed raise a company''s vulnerability and the risk of lost income. It has been written for everybody who does not know much about IT and IT-security but would like to get some insight into the subject and its relevance for the company''s success.
