Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of death in western countries. Identifying cardiac patients that are at increased risk of suffering adverse cardiovascular events due to thrombosis or bleeding complications is therefore a major target and new methods to provide this information are required. The overall haemostatic potential (OHP) assay is a simple global method that might be helpful in the assessment of haemostatic imbalances.
